poem 102

“you said, ‘I love you’

but your words were empty

my eyes were full

and my heart was heavy

I said goodbye

and walked away

the tears began

to flow down my face

my heart was broken

I couldn’t believe it

because when I say I love you

I mean it

but words are just words

nothing more

and you left my heart

there on the floor

my aorta still pumping love 

out onto the ground 

I picked it up, put it in my chest

and I began to drown

all this love poured

into my lungs and cells

It fixed my broken spirit 

and made me well

in the midst of heartbreak

I found true love

better than any feeling

I can dream of.”
